In reply #33, I made a comment about my current project, which is making a Hugelkultur garden bed from trees which were recently blown down by a storm. I included 4 images in the post, and a link to the same site you have found.
The Hugelkultur concept seems ideal for Australian weather conditions which include alternating wet and dry periods of significant duration. During dry periods, a Hugelkultur garden bed should require less watering, and generally less fertilizing.
Ideally, the mound should be located in a swale so the water doesn't run away during heavy rain.
