Hi Armand,

Both are wonderful...because there is a choice I prefer the first. Soft and strong at the same time.

I think the soft comes a lot from the haze/snow and the issues the RX10 iii had on focusing at max zoom. The strong partially comes from trying to compensate for the softness. Then again, you might have something else in mind when you say soft and strong.
The second is crisper but the smoke is not as appealing.

My vote also goes to the first shot. I prefer the "shape" of the smoke and also the wider framing.

The first for me as well, largely because of the smoke's symmetry with the mountain side.

But the light is nice in the second.

What makes the first one better (to me) is the length and direction of the plume. I like the light in the second shot better. Alas ...

Thank you! Sometimes conditions don't fully cooperate. I knew that it's a good scene but many times I can't get the shot that I want.
