My P800 does not seem to like how I load the canvas or paper rolls; it takes me about 5-6+ attempts before I get it and the error I get is always that it is "skewed"? It looks very square to me while loading, slack is out of roll and I feel I feed it evenly, and I've read some other posts about trimming the leading edge and uncurling the roll curl to make this easier. Still not having consistent results, though. Love the printer output but looking for anymore secrets to load rolls easier?
I use different rolls and change frequently so it is necessary for me to do this often....

Ugh as well! I rarely change papers anymore because mine is so finicky.
Too much of a headache. Just easier to buy several more printers. :)
I use my P800 almost exclusively with Ilford Gold Mono Silk for B&W prints. The output is superb.
You could try taping a small leader of a heavier paper to the leading edge of the canvas and see if that helps.
A $500 price jump from the P800 to the P5000 but I heard most of the loading issues disappear with the P5000.
Someone that actually has one can elaborate I'm sure.
I think Epson knew the demand would be there for the P800 roll feed and did enough remanufacturing to barely make it work figuring the pros would all go for the P5000.

Ha! Well thanks for the reply.....I will try that with a heavier leader. Since I'm a small studio that prints my own smaller stuff - yes, I find switching to be a frequent event, but thanks for there tip on Ilford -I have some of that I believe in small sheets but have not yet tried it!
I think I will have to wait until at least 2019 regarding that P5000:)

My experience with P800 roll paper loading is that approx for every 3 loads, 1 is a failure, 2 are successful.
Lack of vacuum could be a problem with baryta or other stiff papers on roll, since the curvature of the media makes number of head strikes so wide gape needds to be used, but it decrease quality.
Roll handling works quite well with standard photo PE papers.

I am afraid with my limited experience of the P800 (less than a month) that it is no better than the rear sheet feed on the 3880 was in that regard, ie awful.
I tried de-rolling the edge bit and that helped.
I suspect that, like the 3880, there is a knack that one needs to develop.

There is a setting that checks for skew. I turned if off and have had no issues.

You can do this from the panel on the printer:
Setup/System Admin/Printer Setting/Page Skew Check/ and check Off.
I have had no issues with paper feed coming out straight and I have done prints that are 5 feet long.

In addition to turning off the skew (a great tip, thanks ) I have bought one of these.
It makes getting the straight paper edge easy.
I just need to rig up something to allow the cutting

Yes paper skew is the issue, I have a paper cutter and if I get the loading error message I "trim" the paper edge and then reinsert and it loads with no problem, I haven't tried turning off the paper skew but must try that.
