Title: Epson 9900 stalling at both left and right -- printing VERY slowly

Our 9900 has suddenly stopped printing reliably -- it stalls at both sides of most print scans, appearing to be looking for something it can't find. After moving back and forth a few inches at the home position a random number of times, it then tries another pass.  Occasionally it will print several passes at normal speed before stalling again.  Sometimes it stays in the same right-hand position for as long as a minute or so.

The printer was printing rapidly and at full speed even earlier this afternoon.  Recently had head replaced by Epson.  Using Imageprint 10.0.34.
One other anomaly: Occasional Imageprint Spoolface errors: "Mar 18 14:26: Error: critical error during building scanline."  But not consistently or on all files.

Powered printer off and on -- no change in behavior.  Also ensured that all ink cartridges are full.  Same misbehavior on attempts to print other, previously printed images.  Reloaded canvas roll -- no change.

Any ideas?

Does it do the same thing using the Epson driver?  From the error maybe this is an Imageprint problem?

Never seen this although I suppose it could be there is a problem with the sensor on the print head or the encoder strip.

Yeah, either a dirty encoder strip (more likely than a failed sensor) or the CR motor is overheating.

Thanks for both suggestions.  After considerable testing, the problem evaporated.  I have been unable to produce it again.  All in all, I guess that's good!
