Title: Drama over Pienza
Post by: Hans Kruse on December 20, 2017, 11:07:39 am
Tuscany is normally color photography for me, but sometimes I find that b&w lends itself to better express the emotions of the scene. Here is an example when the clouds over Pienza was displaying the grandeur og what they can be.

This was shot with the Canon 5DSR and the Canon 24-70 f/2.8L II lens at 50mm and f/8

Very nice! For me, Tuscany is always a beautiful place, in color or B&W.

Tuscany does invite color, but moments like this really need the black and white.
Great shot.

Good and dramatic B&W but... I wonder what the colour looks like? Bluish/grey dramatic sky over green fields can look good too:)

Thanks Eric and Paulo. I'm happy to show a color version although I think in this case the b&w works the best. But let me know what think.

Hans,

Thanks for the colour version. Indeed the B&W works better in this case, in my humble opinion. Perhaps because the light is less interesting than in your other shots.

The color version is pretty, as is so much of Tuscany anyway, but the B&W version is truly powerful.

Definitely the B&W version!  Is it tilted just a bit?

Thanks for the comments on b&w versus color. The tower in Pienza is straight so I'm not sure what makes the feeling og the image being tilted.

I really like the image but I couldn't help but wonder what it would look like if I darkened the foreground a bit and darkened the top left part of the sky to help focus the eye to the town more.
