Good Day Folks,
Let's suppose you've got a sequence of 8 images (to make it simpler, I'll designate a letter for each image..."A" is one image, "B" is another etc....) that you want to stitch for a horizontal pano.
"A" gets stitched to "B", "B" to "C" & so on until the pano is complete.
My question is: after 4 images have been stitched together (ABCD for example) is it possible to open part of ABCD (preferably the "D" part of "ABCD" to stitch the next image in the series "E" to ABCD in order to keep the file sizes small during the whole process?
And when E has been stitched to ABCD, is it possible to open only part of ABCDE (the "E" part of "ABCDE") to stitch "F" to "ABCDE"? & so on & so on?

No way I know of, in that once you have made the combination ABCD, it's one big image (if you have flattened the layers) and if you haven't it's going to be even larger and still be seen as one large image.
The only way to do what you are thinking about I can think of would be to crop part of ABCD to work with E, then combine it to the cropped portion of ABCD.

I'm going to assume that you are stitching manually in photoshop.
Here is a four image example, you could do the same for a 8 image stitch.
You could just chop each frame (A B C D) in half. So then you would have,
A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, D1, D2
Then blend,
A2+B1
B2+C1
C2+D1
Then just join all the images together in one file,
A1, A2+B1, B2+C1, C2+D1, D2
So you save memory when doing the manual blending, and the last step is just pasting the final components together in one image (with no need to blend).

If you assume that you have 2 pictures to stitch, and after take more to pictures, and so on, you can do it.
