Hi Russ,

Do you think this image would feel more complete, if you had framed out the gap to the upper left side?

I know the tonal ranges are similar, so the gap isn't distracting at all, but I feel the shot would look much better/complete if the tree was fully filling the frame.

But hey that's how I work, so I suppose your view isn't going to be my view is it?   :)

I prefer it just the way Russ framed it. That gap and the deep shadow along that side of the tree give a bit of 3-dimensionality to the tree which would be lost without the gap.

I also like the interplay of shadows, bark, and small leaves.
It's an image to be savored.

Hi Dave, Actually I think the picture would have been less complete if I'd left out that gap that finishes the picture's geometry. And I understand that that's the way you work. But, "You to your fancy and me to my Nancy," as the old lady said when she kissed her cow. We all have our ways.

Very simple, but very beautiful.  Photographs don't need to scream at you.
