I wonder what more is to be expected... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tah8tiFLBZc (32.35) ...what is your guess?
-
Μy wishlist (in that order):
1. CF version of CFV backs for more platforms than V (m645, C645, Rollei6xxx, HY6... etc)
2. CFV (CF) version of the 50/200MS back
3. CFV (CF) - 100 version
4. Shutter for tech camera lenses (H/X1D interface compatible).
5. HTS adapter dedicated for X1D (for H/V lenses) ...a modern Flexbody/Arcbody.
6. H6X
-
I hate to break it to you, but nobody is making anything for Rollei, Hy6 and Contax platforms anymore. At least, nobody who has a real business plan.

I don't ( ;)) hate to break it to you, but if there is a platform that nobody is making anything for (not even the inventor of it :o ), that is the m645 platform you use! ;D ;D ;D ...just compare S/H prices as to find out how much your (Ferrari) equipment worths with respect to our KIA... (your words, don't blame me for repeating them... ;D ;D ;D)

Well, my Bronica ETR platform is very much dead.
Silvestri makes a V to ETR adapter plate (which costs as much as an Alpa set of screws, or a kidney :P) and is rather ugly, but other than that it never got official support in the digital age.
As for the H6X, I had the impression the H6D is not a closed platform anymore. It does support film backs and no one said it didn't support third party digital backs either. Or did I get this wrong?

Nobody has tested the H6 bodies (to my knowledge) if they work with other H backs, or third party, or cross-work between them... The wish for H6X is because the camera has a completely new user interface with advanced capabilities of use and because one can then get a body without having to purchase a back with it...

Theo why can't you stick to opening and answering your own topics that was so much more entertaining.

I prefer to discuss what people's wish list is with the next coming at Photokina Hasselblad products... You can of course make a thread and discuss whatever else you want (like your XF & IQ-100 or bashing the X1D if you insist)... you're free to take your "friends" with you too... ;)

I think you just don't get it. But looking at your posts I'm not surprised looking at your posts and history.
If Hasselblad would offer something worth buying for me I would do that. And as I said before I haven't given up so far. The X series might have a fantastic future.
So far Haseelbald backs have been lacking quite a bit when it comes to using them on technical cameras. And that's what I need a back to do.
Now don't get me started on, the fact that Hasselblad backs work as well on a technical camera and are a much better investment as Phase is over priced.
This might be true if you have a unhealthy business model and are unsure about your future. However, I did buy the XF100 as a new product and I didn't think twice about the price. Why ? Because I don't need to as it is the tool earring money.
If your business can't afford phase one so be it.

My work is almost entirely in art reproduction and ancient monuments (interior & exterior) architecture... I can't complain for my income from it, a non multishot back or camera doesn't interest me at all (nor any other out of the few that can and are in the same business as me)... Thanks for your suggestions, if I was shooting what you do, I would use a Sony mirrorless on my (heavily modified) P2 or film... But that's my opinion, you are free to get for your self whatever suits you... Still, this is a thread for suggesting what would be useful to users, out of the Hasselblad new releases that Mr. Oosting promised for Photokina...

Estrogen therapy, anyone?
Other options are Permethrin and/or Boron :o
But maybe the OP was on holiday at the time of the announcement and missed the nitty gritty stuff...
-
Hasselblad really needs to get busy making the gear they've announced, as the backlog/wait for the the new shutter HC/HCD glass isn't helping.
Theo, 1-4 of the items asked for WILL NEVER HAPPEN. 4 would be nice, but really, if Hass were to do a tech/view type option they'd sell the whole camera and it'd take a H/X lens which is what 5 is. While I see Hass doing a X1D to V adapter at some point, save it for next year. I don't understand what 6 would get you (H5x + 1/2000th = H6x right?) - for the faster shutter speeds, you need the whole lens/body/back link to exist, and I am certain Hasselblad doesn't see an advantage in working with PhaseOne to do this.
The only things I expect is the wider X lens, and maybe a refresh of the CFV-50c (screen, guts, add portrait orientation) but that may be saved as a launch item for the next rev of the 33x44 CMOS chip. IF Phase comes out with something, great, but I don't expect it, nor do I think there is pressure to do something. The XF is pretty amazing, and the new blue ring glass is flaunting it's ability with their shipping 100mp product.

My guesses for Kina:
- H6D multi-shot (single model with 4x mode only, improved Phocus does the Silkypix masking trick to enable multishot usage on slightly moving scenes)
- new 35mm for the H system
- adapte for V lenses of the X1D
Cheers,
Bernard

That already exists in the form of the X1D>HCD>CF adaptor

A polite answer.
I think new Hasselblad products will be made for Hasselblad, which makes a lot of business sense.
-

Yes, I know you can do that, but a native adapter would be more convenient, more accurate, more robust and cheaper.

Good luck with that!

Good luck with that!
Well, if you own V lenses and nothing else, why would buying 2 adapters be cheaper than buying one?
The H-> V adapter costs 1,500 US$, which I wouldn't call cheap.

Joe, the biggest advantage of the CF backs series was that they had user interchangeable adapter plates. Making CF backs again, (meaning CFV but with interchangable plates) would add sales of backs, but would attract more users too as to change to the H platform when it comes to upgrade the platform at sometime in the future.... An H6X does make a lot of sense since it would both provide a second body for back-up to H6D users functioning exactly the same as their first body (as H5X does for the H5D users), but it would additionally give the opportunity to users that have an older back they want to keep along side a modern camera for what it does (say a tethered only one, or a multishot one, or one without microlenses that works well with their view camera), to integrate it with the rest of their system.
OTOH, one wouldn't expect the H5 series to last for ever after the H6 has been released... After the 30th of September when the S/H H6D-50 that are under the promotion for the H6D-100 program will find their way to the dealers at a discount price, one should expect from Hasselblad to gradually replace the marketing position of the H5 series of products to the H6 respective ones.
-
The wish for H6X is because the camera has a completely new user interface with advanced capabilities of use
The user interface of the H6 cameras (not back) is quite similar to the one of the H1-H5 cameras. Just download the manual at the Hasselblad site to find out.

Actually, I thought more about this, and if you are currently invested in V glass, you either are shooting a V body or have the V adapter for a H body (or a V to m645). If you already are shooting the V glass on a H body, the $300 to get a H to X1D makes sense, rather than a $1,800 V to X1D adapter(s). If you're on a V body, wouldn't you be better off with the CFV-50c, as is or updated?
From a reliability & structural integrity perspective, I don't like 2 adapters, it should be a single one. But since Hasselblad isn't selling new V mount glass, they don't see how they would return an investment. The V to H had to be done as there weren't as many H lenses initially, and there was lots of new V glass that was being sold.

Theo, while a great idea a decade ago, the only company who did a plate based system is Sinar, and I don't see much chatter about them on here. There is no longer a financial advantage for doing a plate based system, and any idea of doing it to gain some sort of loyalty from a user is not a business model.

IMO, it is to the benefit of Hasselblad to make a direct V to X adapter and they will... Either if they make V lenses or not, it clearly is important for them to keep the half a million V-users loyal to the firm (they don't miss a chance to underline that in all their recent marketing activity)... Lets not forget that in P.Oosting's interview here in Lula, he said that the CFV was their most selling product during 2015...
I even think that they will make a CFV-100 sooner or later and the will most certainly offer a V to X adapter, but a shift/tilt adapter for V lenses on X camera too... There is no "FF" back they make for the V (or ever made) and thus V users only have the alternative to turn to competition if they want one... surely that's not good for Hasselblad's image to the public... If one notices the difference in price between the two H6D versions, it looks possible that they can make a CFV-100 for 12K Euro/15K USD... That would make it very attractive to V users, it would also make a possible CF series of backs very popular for other platform users... For example there is an extremely wide base of Contax 645 wedding photographers that a reasonably priced CF-50 and a CF-100 would make much sense as to invest on...

FWIW, apparel on getDPI confirmed after talking to his sources that there won't be another CFV back. It's all H and X from now on.

Go to this page: http://www.hasselblad.com/h6-system/h6d-50c (http://www.hasselblad.com/h6-system/h6d-50c). Clic on "FAQ" and read (towards the end):
CFV-50c: will all H6D features be integrated into future CFV backs?
In the next revision of the CFV back the relevant and compatible features will be added.
Notice the "next revision" part. Of course, maybe they just mean "firmware revision"... but I would not exclude a CVF back with a touch screen. Why not? It is little effort and there is a market for it.
Of course, there is no market for a CFV with adapter ring and multishot and built-in correction of the aberrations of defunct third party glass as the market for a such back would be exactly one person, sitting in the city of Κόρινθος. But we already know that.

My Hasselblad rep has told me that the V to X adapter is not on the table at the moment. Of course that might change in the future but the existing V to H adapter is expensive (c£1,500) and, apparently, has not sold well. I would have thought that a V to X adapter would not be much cheaper than that. The H to X adapter is much more reasonably priced and, it is suggested, will allow AF on some or all of the HC lenses. I use the V to H adapter from time to time but after a while it becomes a bit of a bore and I have ended up buying H lenses with AF instead. I can't see it happening. Logically I can't see the reason for it - it would be nice for those of us with cherished V lenses but this is a new system - much more likely is that HB will concentrate on producing X specific lenses with the H to X adapter for those who really need focal lengths not currently on offer.

I'm sure you remember Joe that imacon/Hasselblad also made interchangeable interface plates for their CF series of backs, Sinar still does. Hasselblad never abandoned the idea either, they only stopped making the CF backs after they decided to "close" the system and make their backs only available for Hasselblad bodies... a decision that pretty much brought them to the edge of the abbys. The reason behind the plate system, isn't some financial advantage... It is rather that one can keep using his back if he decides on a different platform, or if he uses two (or more) camera platforms. Certainly the perfect way for a company to follow if they want to attract some third platform user as to jump boat to theirs next time... Fortunately, both my MS backs (Hasselblad CF-39MS & Sinarback 54H) are with interchangeable plates.
IMO, it makes a lot of sense for Hasselblad to reintroduce the CF series, other than they can take back some sales from competition (especially now that their pricing is more competitive than ever), they also have the backs ready (with the CFV series) and the interface plates ready too (so that there is the minimum of effort required).

I am shooting V lenses of a 503CW. I did consider a CFV back, but the V platform isn't really adapted to the way I shoot and I won't invest more in it.
I may be naive, but I would think that a direct adapter would be an incentive for the many V lenses owners to invest in the X1D platform?
Cheers,
Bernard

Not naive at all, but who knows what Hasselblad's marketing department has in their calculus. I am currently using an IQ160 back on my V system bodies/lenses. I went this route vs. the CFV50c because I don't particularly favor the crop sensor. But I am attracted to the portability and form of the X1D. The ability to use my V system lenses on the X1D - either with a single adapter or stacked V->H>X adapters might tip me over the edge (i.e., into the abyss) to go for one. This could give me the best of different worlds - hand holdable like the SWC but also capable of some serious tripod-based work with a large array of excellent V and H lenses, which would be great when traveling. And I still have my V system and full format CCD back for other projects. Basically it's another arrow in the quiver at a more "affordable" price. I think that Mr. Oosting acknowledged that there are over a half-million V bodies in circulation. How many of these owners do they need to pick up to make it worth their while?

Hey Synn,
I expect a refresh of the CFV-50c, the new screen really is worth it on it's own. I see the CFV- platform as another way to sell 33x44 chips, and any way they can leverage the X1D platform electronics would make it cheaper to produce. That and NickT seems to have plenty of NDA info.

Nick and Joe:
In this instance, I would love to be proven wrong as the CFV series are instead excellent VFM.

This quote sound likes something a Phase one Dealer will tell someone. If you are not Trolling, I suggest that you search the information by yourself. If you do not, you maybe end up paying a fortune for a 44x33 medium format back, just to learn later that a 44x33 is not truly a MF sensor.
Here are the main differences between the H5 and the H6 as far as we know:
1. What you say about the sync speed.
2. New electronics, with faster professors etc.
3. Faster autofocus.
4. New digital interface.
5. Access to CFAST2 that is like basic for a 100+mp backs (XQD will be and option)
6. USB-C important for speed and for future proofing.
They are other minor stuff. Hope this helps. I don't understand why you believe that Hasselblad needs PhaseOne to create a new MF back. Did I miss read you ?

Best regards,
Joe (who made the statement) doesn't (understand the reason) either.... ;) He probably was trying to propagate his idea that Hx-X cameras are intended for people to use P1 backs on them... It seems that P1 Propaganda in forums used to work on the US market and there are some funboys (always the same) that dominate forums being in a mission as to only praise P1... I only wish Hasselblad will re-release the CF series of backs instead of letting P1/Leaf playing the "no competition market winner" as they let them do when they stopped making them...
If one judges on the market appreciation that the CFV had (and a possible CFV-100 is also expected to have) as to be used on V-bodies, there is no reason why (the now left orphans) Mamiya m645 or Contax 645 users wouldn't consider a respective version for their cameras... If additionally a reasonably priced multishot version of the CFV/CF was to be released that would offer decent LV ability, I can see it dominating the professional market on third party platforms and view/tech cameras.
-
The Contax 645 System is still selling very, very well as second hand.
Question is, how much effort is it to make a 645 Mamiya/Contax/Bronica version of the CFV, especially regarding electronics (no cables please).
I would considering buying a CFV-50c for my Contax 645, although it is a risky investment considering the service situations of these systems …
Nevertheless, I don't think it will happen, as Hasselblad apparently believes in closed systems. If I remember right, at the time, the introduction of the HX bodies was not that voluntary either, was it?
-
Maybe something was lost in translation, that was a joke that Theo has too much testosterone in his system.
I guess that since with my Contax/CF-39MS combination one has interchangeable finders, can use film, has multishot, faster lenses and larger sensor, it is a much more wanted and able system than your DF and Credo 40. If one adds to that my view camera and lenses, then he can ...like my system's testosterone (as long as he asked for it) ;) Only thing he then has to do, is to admire on other people's system testosterone too and he'll end up having liked all of it... :o Just a joke for your likes on system's testosterone so that nothing is lost in translation... :-X

Indeed would like to have one for my Contax, but still did not find any for a reasonable price …just had a look, in 2006 the US price was 38.000 USD for this back !!

A maker doesn't have to make backs for every maker that has ever existed... Only where it counts (and will be profitable to do so) will do.. Leaf/P1 do backs for C645 because it is profitable to them to do so. If Hasselblad would as well, I guess they would dominate the market among C645 users given the much better pricing policy... Contax 645 is very popular (the most popular camera out of all) among the best of wedding photographers world wide who use it with film, if they could have a back that would allow them to use the camera in LL conditions, they would abandon the use of DSLRs for the purpose altogether... Other than that, Contax 645 is very popular among non professionals too, but there are still pros that rely on it on other aspects of photography too... I guess the price of the system in the S/H market is quite a proof of the demand behind it. Servicing a Hasselblad MFDB (or worry for issues) is as rare as NASA missions to the moon... My Ex-528c was never serviced and still functions as day one in the hands of another forum member, so does my CF-39MS that replaced it... and I do use them hard.
-
Indeed would like to have one for my Contax, but still did not find any for a reasonable price …just had a look, in 2006 the US price was 38.000 USD for this back !!
Well... I guess if Hasselblad decides to release a multishot version (of their modern Cmos backs for Contax 645, you can have mine at a much better price... It will still be a bit more expensive than a P-45+ (same sensor) though, as it can do multishot and has much more neutral color than it... My guess is that the fact that C645 backs have higher price in the S/H market than the respective ones for other platforms and are sold on the spot, is a proof that Hasselblad should consider making backs for Contax, extra sales never harmed a maker... ;)

My comment on service situation was more related to Contax where it gets more difficult to get spare parts and repair services … shutters, for instance have no endless life. I recently bought a second body with high serial number, only as spare (peace of mind) …. because I plan to use this for some time to come.

No problem with service of Contax either... PM me if you ever have any trouble with it, there are official services both in Europe and US and all spare parts one will ever need... They have no objection as to sell spare parts at third party services either... I did buy a couple of new genuine shutters for Contax some 7 years ago having the same worries as you now have, but I ended up using one of them on a camera that had a thumb accident which I bought after and still have the second shutter... The camera that had the shutter replaced is now also with a (well known and respected) forum member who bought it to his knowledge that shutter was replaced and works like new for professional use.. But its better if this parenthesis for the Contax should end and just return to the subject... (although Hasselblad releasing back the CF series of backs for some cameras is in line with the subject). Contax matters can always be discussed on a Contax subject where more C645 can participate... (don't be surprised though if the -now known- same forum trolls jump into that too...)
-
Anyway... one should expect more participation/suggestions as to what the "next surprises" that Mr Ooosting promised will be at Photokina...

Best regards,
Hey jduncan,
I'm actually not trolling, nor would anyone here consider me a troll. The comment made may not translate well, but Hasselblad has done an amazing job announcing the H6D platform, with a complete lens lineup refresh, plus a whole new platform in the X1D. Given how slow & methodical medium format companies work, that is multiple years of work and the culmination of a huge amount of research & development plus cash. There is a lot to do in order to manufacturer that much gear, and given the demand and back orders, we don't need more announcements - we're waiting for products in the stores. The Sony sensor supply situation is not helping, but it isn't under Hasselblad control.
I love 6x8 and want a 6x12 camera, so this whole 'truly a MF sensor' statement is childish - it's larger than 24x36, so it is 'MF'. The 44x33 backs currently in use are amazing, and produce great works now.
Your list is about the H5D and H6D differences, yet those that camera was not part of these discussions. Theo referenced a 'H6x' as item 6 of his wish list in the original post. My reply to that was there is no difference between a H5x and what would be a H6x other than maybe a bit faster auto-focus. All the other differences are in the back, not the body, with exception the shutter speed. Hasselblad would need PhaseOne to cooperate with regard to doing a H6x that would allow for an IQ back to work with the 1/2000th shutter speed. Hasselblad wouldn't do it on it's own, it wouldn't make business sense.

He probably was trying to propagate his idea that Hx-X cameras are intended for people to use P1 backs on them...
Isn't that the whole thing about the H4x/H5x? Support for film backs and the ability to use any of the standardized H mount backs (Sinar/Leaf/Phase) giving folks an upgrade path from the H1 & H2? Toss in the ability for a H5x to be a backup body for a H5D back.

No it's not... The prime aim is FOR ME to be able to use my CF-39MS full functioning (only platform that can do multishot) if I ever decide on a new platform... and (of course) the "open" H1 & H2 user to upgrade his body (only)...
EDIT: What incapable backs can do, is the back's maker concern and is the same on other platforms aimed for incapable backs...
-
Extrapolating the needs of one to the needs of many is truly an incomparable skill.

Fair enough, you were sold a Hasselblad platform that uses adapter plates to support a crazy amount of cameras. My question is what would a H6x give you that a H5x doesn't? Given that the MS cameras are all H5D- based at this time, I would anticipate the H5x body being continued, if not being used in place of the H5D body.

I was sold no platform... I only bought a (another) back that had no alternative out of incapable back makers...

H6X would offer a better future plan for the pro... I always make my upgrades under a pre-decided plan... don't you?
-
Is there an actual, physical difference that warrants making a completely separate body to support third party backs, or is this just a software limitation that can potentially be overcome in the H6D with a firmware update?

I really don't have a clue and am concerned on the answer... (but nobody cares to answer it). I wish Hasselblad would never make H6D-50 or H5D-100 or anything else... If H-X bodies can be used as back up on H (complete) cameras... Then why don't they make H-X body + 50 or 100 back beats my logic... It surely would cost them nothing on top as to do so...

I would estimate that 90% of purchases of h4x and h5x bodies in the US were made by photographers/companies to use with a Phase One back.
Maybe in Greece they are all being purchased for photographers to use with legacy multi shot backs. I don't have any experience with that market.

It wouldn't surprise me... given that Hasselblad abandoned the CF backs and have let P1/Leaf to play the "no competition existent winner" (all Hassy's fault) it wouldn't surprise me at all... They should have wondered on why people choose their platform to use but they offer no back to support their own camera... If they do... I'm not very sure that you'll rave too much on the balance... ;)

Actually, i would call a CF & the CF-MS a platform all it's own, unfortunately they haven't touched it since the -39 chip. I understand your want for it, as it gives ultimate flexibility that has never been matched. Given the consolidation of camera systems down to Phase and Hasselblad, there isn't as much motivation to do a platform such as the CF, especially how multi-shot is a subset of H system users.
I think I'm reading into your statement as that buying a H6x with the idea of upgrading to a Hasselbad 50c MS or 200c MS back at a later time. I would actually say someone is better off going for the cheaper H4x/H5x, or saving money for the purchase of the newer back.

So, I actually agree, the bodies should be the 'X' variety in most cases, I seem to recall a deal where you could buy a H5D-50c and upgrade the body to the H5x. But since Hasselblad decided their only back would be the CFV-50c, and everything else would be a 'system', it's kind of how it is. Yes, we say 'film compatibility' to justify it, but really, Hasselblad would be better off selling new 120 film backs at a discount. Phase did the same thing with the XD body, where as the P/P+ backs were effectively left behind. Technology just gets to a point where trade-offs have to happen.

H5 & H6 (complete) cameras work just fine with film backs... There is really no reason on why Hasselblad insists to sell complete cameras instead of selling H-X bodies and 50 or 100 backs in the first place... Other than that, CFV isn't the only back they make... they do sell 50MS and 200MS as stand alone backs (H fit) without a camera for one to use on view/tech cameras (or with an H-X body)...
