Title: Four colour works from Iceland
Post by: luxborealis on July 05, 2016, 11:18:20 pm
As much as Iceland is suited to B&W, there are also some colours, both subdued in the rock and eroded hill slopes, but also brilliant in the hues of blue in the glaciers and icebergs. The lupines were an added bonus in mid-June, but we learned they are an alien species introduced from North America to stabilize and nutrify volcanic soil. Then there are the red-roofed white farm buildings and churches. It is said the red roofs allow the buildings to be seen in the snow and fog - I think a designer came in and told Icelanders how to make their farms and churches especially photogenic!

All photos were made with a Sony RS10iii, processed in LR. I haven't had time to spend trying out C1 for Sony, which I upgraded to Sony Pro. Lens focal lengths are stated in 35mm equivalents.

Lupines, Olafsvìk: 34mm ƒ5.6 @ 1/80 ISO 200 EV–1⅔
Church, Vìk: 200mm ƒ4 @ 1/125 ISO 200 EV–⅓
Iceberg, Jökulsárlón: 500mm ƒ4 @ 1/640 ISO 100 EV–⅔ (Yes it's really that blue; Saturation = –10)
Laugarhraun and Brennisteinsalda: 111mm ƒ5.6 @ 1/320 ISO 100 EV–⅓

C&C&Qs welcome.

Fine work, Terry, as we expected.
I hope you'll share more of them.

2nd is a strong composition with many lines converging to the church.

Well done.

Indeed #2 is very strong.

A great set, and the lupins add a decent splash of colour

My preference is for more contrast and saturation but these images as presented are very nice and worthy of a post.

Thanks for sharing. I have only been viewing your pictures for the past several days and your B&W's are great so it is also nice to see some colour. The one of the church has all those nice virtual lines (differences between vegetation) centering it.

Beautiful images. The ones of Víkurkirkja and the iceberg are especially compelling.

All good, Terry: I particularly like the ice and it's interesting to see the church at Vík and to compare it with the one I took in February: http://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?topic=108788.0. The leading lines into the church persist!

Good stuff, especially the setting for the church.

#2 and 4 are my favorites. I prefer the softer light and colors which my eye enjoys spending time looking. Well done and thanks for sharing.

+1

All are fine compositions, very nice, but all seem a bit pale and under-saturated IMO.

Nice work, thanks for sharing. I'm also partial to the church especially.
