The contrast between the horse and the building make the image. An image that has you thinking which means it works.

Very good, it almost looks like the horse is waiting for someone to come out. I would crop a little bit from the right, and light the barn wall a bit too, to make the texture more visible.

Love the luminous white horse in that dark landscape.
Well seen!

Scott - really great subjects and comp. Not a 100% on dark/middle grays on barn etc - also I would look at it with the right 1/7 -1/6th cropped off. Since your barn subject is pushed all the way to left and horse is "looking" toward it on the left...what does all the space on the right do to support that? I'm not sure it helps. /B

Additional texture in the wood would add detail, but more importantly, depth. That wood should sing; raising the shadow tones would do that while keeping the light-dark contrast that is working so well.

Nice one - I agree with Brandt's suggestion about cropping it on the right side.

Thanks for the comments!

To me, the barn has enough detail in the first version. I didn't want it to compete with the horse. I have lightened it in the second.

The second is also cropped a little on the right. I had already cropped on the left to omit some junk, producing the unbalanced 1st version.

I don't know what I enjoyed more, the photograph or the title ;D

Great image and a fun idea!  I suspect that seen larger (fullscreen or print) the barn detail is more easily seen and the subtle tonal variations liven it up more than is possible in a limited space.
