Are multiple exposures possible for digital cameras?

Not usually in the sense I think you mean - that is, several exposures on a single frame.  Although I seem to remember that at least one DSLR may have this ability (Nikon?).

The work around is to take several pictures and then merge them in Photoshop or similar app.  This can also give one more control over the final image.

The (now very obsolete) Fuji S1 Pro can actually do "traditional" multiple exposures. I don't know if subsequent Fuji DSLRs retained this feature.

In any event, I wouldn't bother, given that you can accomplish the same thing in Photoshop with much greater control over the end result.
