I really like the Canon 1d series. I have tried the 1d MkII and really prefer it to the 5d body. I really can't afford the 16 mp 1ds now. Full frame would be nice, but is the is the 5d image much better since it is a later model than the 1d? The 1ds at 11 megapixels, along with the better body is appealing. Used, the 1ds is about the price of a 5d before the discount. However, I get the feeling that higher iso performance of the 5d might be better (later software, hardware improvements, etc). Any opinions? I am interested in architechtural photography.

May I drop in here a more specific question regarding 1Ds (11 MP) vs. 5D: How do compare both AF systems? I was very pleased with the hit rate, response in low light and contrast situations and speed of the 1Ds. Is the 5D the same/better/worse?

For architectural photos, I can't imagine that low ISO noise would be a problem. FWIW, with decent lighting, and proper exposure, the 1Ds is great even at ISO 800, and very usable above that.
The big differences between the two: # and position of focus points, heavy vs. light body, the 1Ds might have more programmable functions. The 5D supposedly has better dynamic range, which might be important...

I have a comparison of the 1Ds and 5D including noise samples available here:
1Ds vs 5D (http://www.adventurephotographer.net/articles/1Ds_vs_5D/index.htm)
This should help you make a decision...

Is inclement weather a possibility? There are reports of the 5D failing in wet conditions whereas the 1Ds keeps on chugging.
