Title: What's the life expectancy of a colorimeter? New i1 disp pro for old NEC SV?

Just got a new BenQ monitor and i1 display pro.  I have an older NEC Spectraview 26wuxi that I still use.
Should I stop using the old NEC puck and Spectraview and go with the new puck and the Xrite software?
I think the NECmonitor was purchased back in 2010 or 11

You'll want to continue to use the Spectraview software to calibrate the screen but most likely, you'll find you get better results using the new i1Display vs. the NEC puck which, if it's the old ½ egg shaped one, had plastic filters that have been known to fade.

Same thing if you have the Benq 2700 monitor w/ hardware calibration.  You'll need to use Benq's software most likely to access the monitors internals.

Two things I read about the 2700 has me using the xRite  software.
1 - BenQs software installs and runs java which I have deleted from my system because of security concerns.
2 - one or 2 reviews seemed to feel the monitor was better calibrated with xRite software.

Will the NEC spectraview software for the 26wuxi recognize the new puck?  (I don't have access to it right now)

there are way bigger security issues than having Java, esp if you're on Windows.

If you're not going to use the Benq's hardware color engine, just get something 'less'.  You're paying a good
amount for something you're not using.

If it is a native Java application you are in very little danger of compromising your security as it is not a browser plug in.

Cool!  Thanks, that makes sense.  The java holes were browser related from what I remember.

What about the review that claimed the internal lut calibration wasn't as good as the one produced by xRites software?
