Totally dissimilar subjects - on the face of it - but I'm strongly reminded of the Pittsburgh essay from W. Eugene Smith. I managed to catch some of it in a Popular Photography Annual many decades ago. Seems as assignment that went from a given to one that became an obsession, it was too long, too productive ever to make it into Life or even book-form. Photo tragedies are nothing new; for many reasons the best can go unseen, even from the hand of someone such as Smith.

Right, Rob. That was the one where he did Minimata, and got Tomoko in her bath. He was a member of Magnum at the time and the project almost broke the organization. He left Magnum not long after that.
