Title: How to remove thumb smudge from matt?

Silly me, I handled a matted print without wearing gloves or even washing my hands.  Now I see a faint thumb smudge on the matt. How can I remove it without making things worse?

A putty rubber should sort that.

I use a Staedtler Mars Plastic eraser for such occasions. Works wonders.

I like an artists kneaded eraser for this kind of thing or one of the white artists erasers
