Title: Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR Lens

I use the non-VR Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 lens and it is absolutely superb in every respect. I really can't see the need for paying extra for VR on that lens.

I have the same lens. Often use it hand-held with good results.

I used to own the old lens that I had sold due to the lack of VR and very average wide corner performance for my needs (travel lens). The new lens solves that nicely.

I am not sure what you think those images demonstrate, Bernard. They look very "ordinary". (With, of course, the usual caveat about the limitations imposed by viewing any image on a computer monitor via the internet.)

What I would like to hear is whether you can detect any discernible difference in quality, between the old lens and the new, in reasonably sized prints (say A3)?

I find the new lens to have better uniformity across the field on the wide end while remaining excellent on the long end. The bokeh isn't Otus class, but is good for a zoom lens.

The VR works well and AF seems very fast, accurate and reliable on the D810.
