Title: Canson Lustre vs. PhotoSatin

I'm curious if anybody has used both the Canson Photo Lustre Premium RC 310 GSM and the Canson PhotoSatin Premium RC 270?  I can't find anything comparing these two papers and I don't really understand what the difference between a Lustre and a Satin surface?

I havent used either (and I kinda doubt that most of the people here have either since they are both RC papers) but I have Canson's swatch book and the Satin is more of a 'brushed' surface (think difference between regular stainless steel and 'brushed').  The reflections are a bit 'softer' and more diffuse w/ the Satin.  The Lustre being slightly 'harder'.  It's fairly subtle.

If I were to try a lighting metaphor, think softbox vs. beauty dish (w/ a sock diffuser).  The Satin is more softbox-y and the Lustre somewhat 'harder'

Great metaphor. I would also add about the papers that the satin looks almost matte on unprinted area while the lustre is a bit "less matte" on the unprinted area.

So you think the gloss differential on the lustre would be less?

Slightly less, but that is correct.

That would depend on the inkset. The ink has a specific gloss, the paper another, Sometimes they match, sometimes there is some gloss differential. Way above that is bronzing, HP printers being worse than most for that.

You really  have to test the papers with your inks to see what works,

IF you use them without the gloss enhancer, yes. With the gloss enhancer bronzing is not an issue.
