Title: Meaning on the Blue Ring in Lightroom Dialogue
Post by: Simon J.A. Simpson on October 16, 2015, 06:40:05 am
When opening the ‘Edit in Photoshop’ dialogue from Lightroom sometimes one of the buttons has a blue ring around it, as in the screenshot below.

Does anyone have any idea of the significance of the blue ring ?

With the example given it is not the fact that the image has had any adjustments in the Develop module as the History list is empty of edits.

Puzzled…

The blue ring means that is the option selected "Edit Original" . If you proceed with that option the LR will send the "Original" image file to Photoshop for you to make adjustments there, no edits that you may have made in Lightroom will be applied.
You will be working on the original file in Photoshop.

The 'blue ring' is the UI indicting the default (recommended?) option that can be accessed by the Enter key. In all Mac software products properly written under their GUI standards.

Thank you Andrew and Denis.  Yes, I understand what you say.  But…

The default is the button which is selected in blue, in the example “Edit Original”.  Hit enter and this is what you get.

There are two other options – “Edit a copy” and, outlined in blue, “Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments”.  Why is the top radio button outlined in blue ?  There are NO Lightroom Adjustments with this or other files I have tested.

Mystery…

If I remember correctly, this dialogue automatically selects the option that was most recently used--in this case that is apparently Edit Original. The blue ring is as Andrew said, the recommended option (for those who aren't sure which one to pick), and is Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments.

This is an indication of the UI feature that is active if you are tabbing through UI elements instead of pointing with a mouse.  It is not a LR UI feature, it is an OS feature for a dialog window.  You will see these in other applications, dialogs, etc.

You can set this up in the Keyboard preferences (see screenshot - at bottom of window).
