is it bad to use the full spectrum 5000K sylvania fluorescent lights in room for both photo editing, printing and displaying images?

what do you all use?

I use a Solux task lamp.

I use SoLux track lighting system to illuminate my little post production cave. For print viewing my needs are minimal so I just use a SoLux clamp-on light.

Creative Pro's The Darkroom Makes a Comeback (http://www.creativepro.com/story/feature/12054-1.html) is an excellent rundown on room lighting.

Thank you for the link. At present my studio is less than ideal, and this article has helped me look at a few things I can address.

There really is no such thing as a full spectrum Fluorescent light! They all have spikes in the spectrum.

For photo editing I work in a darkened room so I can really see the image on the monitor without disturbing reflections. This helps me to better understand the luminosity and colour balance of the image. For viewing the prints, I use a Solux track and/or a Solux task lamp. I bought my solux equipment from Tailored Lighting, Rochester NY (www.solux.net). Their web-site has useful technical background information on lighting - worth a visit. With a properly calibrated and profiled monitor (colour temp at 6500) and properly profiled printer, I find Solux lighting is as good as it gets for correct comparison of the monitor soft-proof with the finished print, eventhough the Solux bulbs themselves are 4700K. For some reason this combination works - I was skeptical when I first heard it from colour management people who know more than I do, but it's true.
