The stats are quite interesting. With 70 voters (a pretty decent sample) 43% are carrying a mirrorless camera as their small backup/pocketable.

Reminds me of some of Thom Hogan's recent discussion of mirrorless marketing trends. It seems that the people buying them are camera enthusiasts and pros, not the general consumer population.

That makes sense to me, because the quailty of run of the mill compacts is so good these days, you only really need to to mirrorless if you are looking for real fast lenses or want to print large (more likely to be the case with the enthusiast or pro), and for that you pay a significant price premium over the compact.

I love the pics from the DP's I see posted. But I'm scared of the low ISO. It certainly limits the possibilities.

Fuji X20, and my OMD EM5 is staying in the bag more often now that improved Xtrans RAW file support is available.

A year ago I would have called the Oly my small camera – it is now my big one.

Great lens, camera is okay, blown highlights at times (need to watch dynamic range and exposure in contrasty images).

My small camera is an Olympus EM5 with the 12-50/3.5-6.3.

(My big camera is the same body with a bigger lens, like the Olympus 12-60/2.8-4 or 50-200/2.8-3.5 SLR lenses.)

Mirrorless users now make up 60% of respondents. If mirrorless cameras continue to see lackluster sales (particularly in the US), we may find our choices in this space substantially diminished. That could be a problem in a year or three. ...but then again, the advent of cheap video cameras and camera phones will kill still photography before the decade is over, so we will be stuck forever using the same camera we have today....haha.

I used the same Hassy and Horseman cameras and lenses for decades, and I'm still on the 1DsIII and 5DII. Quite frankly after riding the upgrade digital train starting with a D100 and then the original 1Ds, I'm quite happy to see the train sitting on the siding for a few years or more.
