If you have never been to Tokyo, then there is plenty to see and shoot. Either the Mori building, the one with the art museum at the top, or the Tokyo Sky Tree will give you great views including Mt. Fuji if the weather is on your side. Asakusa is a fovorite stop fo Senso temple (Sensoji). Ginza and the Imperial Palce is nice and you can go in and see the remains on the main building. Meiji shrine is very nice. If you like modern buildings, West Shinjuku. Out of the way places are Yanaka and the Asakura Choso Museum is a great spot. You can head south from there to Ueno park that has some nice features. Tokyo is really an easy city to walk around. I have crossed that city many times and places are really not that far apart. You will always run into neat thing, whether a spirit cave or a shrine shoed in between two massive buildings.
If you head North, Nikko and Oku-Nikko are worth a visit and can be done as a day trip. Kamakura and Eno-shima are also day trips from Tokyo. If you want to head into the mountains, Mitake in Okutama makes a great hike and it has a mountain temple. There is Takao-san, which is an easier hike. The is also Tokyo Disneyland.
