5D MrkII + 100mm f/2.8L Macro question

Hi, I rented a Canon 5D Mrk II with 300mm f/4L, 50mm 1.2L, 35mm 1.4L and the 100mm f/2.8L Macro lenses and I noticed on the bottom of the 100mm f/2.8L Macro there is a sticker that reads "POWER DOWN FOR 5 SECONDS BEFORE REMOVING LENS" it was clearly put there by the rental house and I was wondering why this is? thanks,

The IS will run for some time after power off.
To test your hearing, press your ear against the lens tube and listen to the noise. It will stop a few seconds after camera shutdown.
To prevent damage to the lens it seems to be a good idea waiting until the IS lens group had enough time to reach it's idle position.

Oh yeah look at that, very interesting, thank you, I heard a slight ticking noise for a few seconds after the camera was powered down, guess that was it. Interesting, I must say I am very impressed with who quick this lens focuses....especially on a 5D MrkII which, I don't know why everyone says its focus is crap, because even with the other lenses, but especially with this lens, it seemed damn fast. The 100mm f/2.8L macro was almost instantaneous.

For a macro lens AF is pretty fast. But it has a focus delimiter switch for a reason: Compared to some non-macro lenses the speed is not so remarkable, even with switch adjusted to a proper setting.
And the 5D Mark II is not a camera dedicated for sports/action. You may use it for those genres and will get results but speed, sensitivity and AF fine tuning are not in the same league as the big camera guns (+ 7D).

No bashing intended. Limitations there are.

oh totally i agree, My D3s is sitting on the other side of the room and laughing at this camera, but as i mentioned, right now unfortunately I can't physically carry it, so gotta settle.

I just bought a 5D Mark II for personal use, and I've had nothing but good results with the AF system. It's very quick to acquire focus even in fairly low light, comparable or maybe a little better than my 1D Mark IV, though of course it can't keep up with sports action or other moving items as well as the 1-series cameras. But I've been impressed so far.
