Will Nikon produce a camera with a DX format that is in the 16 to 18 megapixel range?
I agree with Tony Beach that this is almost inevitable ... unless Sony and Nikon jump from the 14.2MP [corrected] of Sony's most recent DX format sensor directly to 20MP or more. 20MP in DX would be about the same pixel size as in the Canon 7D and all Micro Four Thirds sensors. Percentage-wise, 14.6MP to 20MP would only be about the same increase as from 6MP to 8.4MP, and that step was widely considered to be barely large enough to be worthwhile, so a smaller step from 14.2MP to 18MP or less would be pointless specsmanship.
