Does anyone know of any great places to shoot landscapes around Raleigh, NC?  I'm in desperate need of new locations.  Thanks

I really like it over in the Moorhead City/Atlantic City area.  There's a terrific fort over there (Macon?) that's fully restored and accessible.  You can also wander along the barrier islands rimming the sound, ranging all the way from Cape Hatteras down to Ocracoke and taking in the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and Cape Hatteras National Seashore along the way.  Lots of lighthouses and terrific coastal landscapes as you go.  And best of all for me is the Wright Brothers National Memorial at Kittiwake.  That in particular lends itself to early morning shooting.

It's a couple of hours or so from Raleigh over to the coast, but well worth every second of the drive and any extra nights you can manage once you are there.

I'm at the western end of the state--well actually the foothills, but going the other direction from the coast (which I would also suggest), you might try the Yadkin Valley and the mts. above near the VA border--just north of Winston Salem.  I tend to take a day or 2 and wander in areas without any preconceived ideas--paying attention to weather for that day before I leave as the weather can change drastically from low country to high--or higher in the same day (though I do love some stormy skies).

I'll second that.  I'm from Greensboro and it makes for a good day trip.  The outer banks would also be a great option.  I lived there for three years while in the USCG.  Ocracoke is a great place shoot.
