Jay Maisel spent more than seven decades making photographs and teaching photographers how to see. His work was grounded in light, gesture, color, and above all, attention.

We look back at his photography, his teaching, and the ideas that shaped his approach to making pictures.

I didn't know that Jay had passed away.

Soon, there'll be none of the Golden Age old guard left.

Hard to believe it's nearly 20 years…
The one image of the person chimping photos he took under his shirt is of course Jay!
Note his lens-cleaning technique. 😱
