Hi all,

I work at a web design company in UAE. My daily tasks involve digital work. I find a lot of inspiration in black and white photography. This is especially true when I design minimalist or luxury websites.

Many businesses in the UAE focus on real estate, fashion, and high-end services. They prefer websites that are sleek and elegant. These websites often use neutral colors. B&W photography often becomes a core visual element, helping communicate class, depth, and contrast without overcomplicating the layout.

A few questions for the community:

  • How do you optimize black & white images for digital platforms without losing tonal depth?

Are there any tools or workflows you use to prepare B&W photos specifically for screens vs. prints?

Has anyone experimented with interactive B&W galleries or subtle grayscale animations?

Would love to exchange ideas or see any examples where black & white visuals have enhanced a brand or digital experience. It’s always great to learn from artists who understand the nuances of the medium beyond the commercial side.

Thanks for sharing your insights!

The first thing that comes to mind is this: whatever you do to make the perfect site, you face the same elephant in the same room as the rest of us, which is that unless your viewers all have calibrated screens, you can’t win.

My iPhone gives me one version, the iPad another, and the only thing that still looks true is what I see using my desktop computer, the same device on which I make the transmitted files. Of course, I might be fooling myself too, thinking that what I see on it today is what I saw months ago. How can I possibly know?
