Moonrise over the Callanish Stones, with a flash and blue gel

Taken at night, as we watched the full moon rise up behind the standing stone circle at Callanish. And very atmospheric it was too.

This is a tripod mounted 30 second exposure, as I wandered around behind the view of the lens, firing off multiple flashes using a deep blue gel.

Interesting effect !
The direction of natural light being from behind, perhaps setting up several similarly gelled flashes where they would be hidden from the lens view so the stones glowed from the moon side ?

Well done, i don't use flash that much, but it can give very nice results as in this case.
I think it worked out very well in you photo. and 30 seconds is enough time to wonder around with your flashes- i like the activity in the dark:)

Unfortunately, the view from the opposite side would also show a small housing estate that sits relatively close to the stones. But yes, if this were not the case, then that would have probably been the way to go.

We intend to go back to the Outer Hebrides this year, because it is just so rustic, untouched and beautiful. And even though there are a few places, where you might meet another photographer or two and some tourists, such as the Callanish Standing Stones. For the most part, you have every location to yourself.

So imagine, white sweeping sandy beaches, that go on for mile after mile. Distant mountains, abundant wildlife, ancient structures and lovely views in every direction. Yet you are the only one there - amazing..

Yep, gotta go back
