Vintage Broncolor Striplite with Grafit Packs
« on: December 15, 2024, 07:38:47 pm »

Hello all, I'm hoping @ulfkrentz will lend his expertise on this one, but am happy to hear opinions from the wealth of knowledge on these forums:

I have recently acquired some vintage Broncolor 'Striplite' units. I'm assuming they are at least 30 years old - I can't find any documentation for striplites pre 'evolution' on the internet, so have very limited understanding of what they actually are or when they were manufactured.

I know I need to be very careful trying to use them with my Grafit A4 packs and have so far had no success. I've been using Lamp output III as I know this is not electronically controlled, but I'm getting the dreaded 'long beep' and no firing from the tubes. One of the units has a functioning modelling light at least, so the units are not completely dead. I'm getting a stated flash duration of 1/85 which of course is terrible, but I would take that over nothing at all.

Any advice on getting them working, including potentially rewiring the heads will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

I´m sorry for this late reply. If the strip is not firing from the third socket it is most likely either the wiring or the tube itself that is giving you trouble. If it is in good shape otherwise have it checked by a tech guy as those heads are operated with high voltage and can be dangerous. Once it works measure the flash duration, if it is somewhere in the range of what is displayed it will also work on the IGBT outputs.
