X-t5 sensor too much for 18-55 zoom?
« on: May 28, 2024, 03:18:20 pm »

Hello, I want a bigger brighter Fuji viewfinder and I’m satisfied that the x-t5 will provide. I won’t be able to afford new lenses if I make this move and I’m wondering about your experiences with the 18-55 and the 40 megapixel sensor. There is discussion aplenty and a wide array of opinion across the web about using the x-t5 with the older 18-55. Could I expect that my results would at least match the performance of the 18-55 on the x-s1? Thank you. Peter

There is a lot of nonsense written about lenses not being compatible with the 40mp sensor. In any system the resolution is determined by the sum of all the components in the imaging chain. Of course, a higher resolution lens will perform better, but an18-55 combined with the 40mp sensor will give better results than it did with the 26mp sensor. I have one of those lenses and a Fuji X-T5.  It will outperform your X-S1 with ease.

It's an excellent lens, I love it for the quality of image in such a nice package. On a T50, which I may own soon, it has to be fine. And the whole package is small and portable. Street camera supreme.

I had an X-T4 and an 18-55 lens.  I was very pleased with it.  I traded in the X-T4 for an X-T5 as I wanted more crop headroom for wildlife even with my 100-400 lens.  I then decided to trade in the 18-55 for the 16-50.  The X-T5 has IBIS so it does not matter that the 16-55 does not.  I am very pleased with it. Can you try a 16-55 on an X-T5 without purchasing?
