Monitor Help.
« on: January 13, 2007, 07:45:23 am »

Ok ive just got the nec 1990sxi, which i was told was amazing. So i tried to calibrate it using a spyder2 pro, but the r/g/b/y/m/c guns dont make a difference to the screen, the only thing that does are the preset color temps, any one else had this? or have any experience with these monitors who can help?

At the moment i mite as well have brought the cheaper model as mine has no better features!

Thanks in advance

Don't worry about it. The important thing is the ddc hardware calibration of the monitor. It will adjust itself. I have the one before it, the 1980sxi and I'm happy with it calibrated with an eye one display 2. I haven't used the spider2 Pro software so I don't know why its asking you for those types of adjustments on an lcd monitor. Your monitor has a lot of features you don't neccessarily see working for you, like gammacomp and brightness uniformity.

Be forewarned that my knowledge pertaining to monitors only qualifies me to be considered dangerous.  That being sad (was that a typo?), I will offer this.  I have been shopping for a LCD monitor and recently posted two possible choices (LG 2000 & NEC 2070) on another forum.  Here is the response from one party -
"Spyder2 can calibrate and profile LCD monitors but it does not use the DDC connection that calibrates the monitors internally. It uses videocard LUTs. Eyeone does work with some monitors via DDC. Some monitors require purchasing propriatary software. The more expensive monitors are expensive because they do have features that enable them to be calibrated internally. Regular calibration (using videocard LUTs) negatively affects LCD image quality, that's why those features are important for high end displays.

There is a possibility that Colorvision will support DDC in the future. But for now if you buy a highend LCD you won't be able to take advantage of some features that make it highend."

So, I am not quite sure of where to go from here.  Also have been looking at the HP L2000 which has S-IPS panel.

Other than the Spyder issue how do you like the 2070?  Is it usable without the Spyder?  And, how do prints match up with monitor?  My biggest concern is getting a good match printing to Epson R800 relating more to darkness issues than to color issues.  Any thoughts on that would be appreciated.
Kindest Regards,
Jay
