Canned air replacement ????

I've got a lot of slides to digitise and they'll all need cleaning. In the past I've used 'canned air' canisters to blow of dust and muck, but am looking for something more sustainable and cheap.
Can anyone recommend a decent rechargeable can system available in the UK ? Something that can be charged with either a car tyre foot pump or preferably an airbrush compressor.

Why not use an Airbrush compressor, with airbrush?

The one I've been using filters oil and moisture out of the air, and the maximum amount of pressure can be regulated on the compressor itself, and fine control is given by the airbrush itself. Of course the airbrush is not used for anything else than air ...

Why not use an Airbrush compressor, with airbrush?

An option for a long session, but not exactly as convenient as having a smaller canister to hand that can also be used for other tasks. My compressor gets stored in the workshop/garage most of the time, so isn't a great place for photo tasks.

I once had a model building setup for airbrush spray painting that used a CO2 bottle.  No dust or moisture.  I kept the bottle right next to the the table where I was working.  Maybe you can rent it and return the bottle and PRV (pressure reducing valve) when done.

Air blowers may push around more dust unless they're filtered.  It's drawing it's air supply from the dusty room.  If I recall correctly, the CO2 bottle has no dust or water vapor.

Interesting, but rather expensive. I try to avoid anything with rechargeable batteries if at all possible these days. A simple refillable canister seems far simpler and long lasting.

The Giotto "Rocket Blaster" bulb blower has a one way valve on the bottom and does a good job in not sucking in the dust you have just removed. I have been very pleased with it. I also use canned air on occasion when I need something a little more powerful. Accidentally having refrigerant come out on a lens or slide is never fun however.

I think you've just given me a Hommer <d'oh> moment. Pretty obvious and sitting in front of me. I'm just so conditioned to using canned air I forget the other possibilities.

Accidentally having refrigerant come out on a lens or slide is never fun however.

Indeed amd was one reason a rechargeable can appealed...and still does for some things.

I'll keep looking, as you say, some proper high pressure air is often the answer to a problem.

Thanks!  I bought one of these when I saw your post.  I works really well for blowing any lint/dust off of printing paper prior to loading in the printers  Also works very nicely when trimming / mounting photos to keep dust out of the process.  Nice little unit.

Good to know, I have one in my Amazon list and intend to purchase when my LAST can of air (two left) goes. It looks really cool.
