Show us.

Mainstream Media Downplayed the Coronavirus Just as Much as Donald Trump

Just read some of the headlines given.

From Vox, What went wrong with the media’s coronavirus coverage?

For instance: While President Trump has been correctly pilloried for describing the coronavirus as less dangerous than the flu, that message was commonplace in mainstream media outlets throughout February. And journalists — including my colleagues at Vox — were dutifully repeating exhortations from public health officials not to wear masks for much of 2020.

There are plenty more articles.  The media greatly downplayed this even up to the beginning of March.

Coronavirus revisionism: When the media pretends their narrative is 'reality'

Hypocritical Media Downplays Wuhan Virus For Weeks, Then Critiques Fox News For Shifting ‘Rhetoric’

Mainstream media outlets, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Vox, have criticized Fox News for allegedly promulgating lies about the severity of the widespread Wuhan virus. But their critiques land with a thud, as these same outlets also played a role in in downplaying the crisis.

So what. We stole the United States from the Indians. It happens. Get over it. Isn't that the Trump Doctrine: Why Should I Care, It's Not My Problem. If "Vietnam, Philippines, and other countries" want their islands back, let them fight for them. We are not the world's policeman. We can't afford to be. Right? And what are we doing anyway? Sailing our ships by the islands and shaking our fist. It's a brilliant strategy. Boy, I bet China is quaking in its boots. They are going to cave any minute now.
Trump is maintaining alliances with our friends in the Pacific and making new ones. He was the one who started protecting international shipping lanes again to free passage. If you were Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Pajanese, Australian, Malay, etc, who would you trust more?  China or the US? If I recall history, China ruled Vietnam for a thousand years.  On the other hand, I agree with you that we may not do anything.  We didn't free Eastern Europe through force after WWII.  But we did act as a block against further expansion.  What are you recommendations of what we should do going forward?

You can't answer a simple question. At this point Alan, exchanging posts with you is a complete waste of time. I'm out.

Oh man, let's not start on the US invasion of Vietnam and all the bombing that took place in both Vietnam and Laos. And all the unexploded bombs that litter both countries killing thousands of civilians every year. And let's not get into the chemical ware fare that the US rained down onto the jungles of Vietnam, Agent Orange that has killed and disabled millions of Vietnamese...and is still maiming today as the effects from Agent Orange get passed down genetically.

Personally I'd have a hard time if I was Vietnamese in deciding who the worst enemy is between China and the US.

So who runs the country, the media or Trump? Who should be the smarter of the two, media or Trump. Who should be looking after the safety of the US public, media or Trump. Who's job is it to listen to the experts and take action, media or Trump.

You are a big critic of the media...basically calling it BS anytime they print anything critical about Trump...yet now you insist this same media should have been looked at in a different manner in February. Can't have it both ways.

Bottom line, the commander in chief was more concerned about the stock market than dealing with the emerging crisis, even when those around him warned about the seriousness of the virus.

At least, we have now a commemorative coin with the names of the president and his VP.

Quote
Nothing says "I survived a global coronavirus pandemic that killed hundreds of thousands" like a nifty coin with U.S. President Donald Trump's name and tweets emblazoned on it.
The White House gift shop unveiled its contribution to the fight against COVID-19 on Wednesday, with a new commemorative coin.

That's a shame. Your journalists screwed up.

But surely the terrifying situation in Wuhan in the last week of January was widely reported?

Here was the CCP, hardly famous for caring for its citizens, shutting down its whole economy in order to protect its people from a new disease.

How could a mayor or a governor or a president witness the Wuhan lockdown and not feel very worried indeed?

At that point they had a duty of care to research the situation, and if they had looked they would have been well aware of the gravity of the threat.

Elliot, Trump stopped Chinese travelers on Jan 31 from entering the US.   Biden and other Democrats called him a racist and xenophobic. The fact is the media is blaming Trump because they don't like him and want him to lose the election.

Positive and encouraging news about the Canadian health system.
Can't see my doctor in person now, but was able to talk with him over the phone, and he managed to get for me a CT scan appointment in only one week.
Not sure if this is the new normal or just a lucky stroke because the hospitals are running only half full right now, but it's a good thing.

Alan, the virus has killed 60,000 Americans in a month. Trump's China ban was ineffective. And he did nothing else. Had he followed the WHO's advice (test, track, isolate), this dire situation could have been avoided.

That's the only positive thing Trump did and his sheeple continually bring it up. Trump dropped the ball on everything following this lock down.

As an aside, we have 1 more day in April. It sure will be magical if this virus somehow just disappears tomorrow. One of Trumps greatest hours.

The two countries that imposed early bans on Chinese travellers, Italy and the US, have ended up with world's largest death tolls.

(I know, it defies common-sense, but those are the facts.)

It takes more than banning. You need to follow up on that with testing and isolation. 40K people came back to the US after the ban...many from China without any concrete plan on how to handle these people...some of which no doubt were infected.

Trump banned China travel...yet later in February said the virus will magically be gone in April. Very inconsistent messages from the leader.

Oh, changing the focus are we, who runs the country now?

Well according to all of the liberals on here, it should be the experts and, overall, the experts said  this was no big deal in January and February.

Thank God, actually, that we had Trump since he did shut down travel.  Given the Dems' response and their "follow the experts" scheme, I have to assume they would not have acted as early.  Actually, Cuomo and De Blasio proves that point.

OMG, can I frame this.  This has got to be one of the funniest things I have ever read.

The WHO, the organization that sent no experts at all to Wuhan and relied solely on communist information.  The organization that ignored Taiwan just out of political reasons.  The organization that for over a month told the  world there was not human to human transmission even though Taiwan said otherwise.  LOL ROTFLMAO.

Yeah, the WHO's credibility is totally shot.

FYI, we have more test on both a total and per 100,000 level then anywhere else.  Yahoo news had the opportunity to embarrass themselves over this yesterday.

Well no shit, our population is pretty damn large, especially compared to others.

However, not on a per capita basis.  We are far below Italy and the majority of the EU when it comes to deaths per million.

That's not true.

We have 17 test per 100,000.  SK, the so called standard barer every liberal likes to talk about, has 11 per 100,000.  This is according to Dr. Birx.

I did just look it up; only Italy is ahead of us.

You showed the media printed some early reports that down played the virus. Now show me the same for experts in the field. Everything I read indicated they kept telling Trump to take the virus serious...but Trump just blew them off.

Not only did Trump disregard his experts...he disregarded what was happening elsewhere in the world like China and South Korea. Yep...it will magically go away in April...we have one more day for Trump to show us his magic.

We have 17 test per 100,000.  SK, the so called standard barer, has 11 per 100,000

South Korea is the standard bearer because of what is does with the positive test results — it track their contacts and isolates them, as per the WHO guidelines.

There are many countries who have tested more per capita than the US, including: Portugal, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, New Zealand, Russia, Australia and Canada.

Your experts need 5M tests a day in order to allow lock down to be relaxed. In April, the US did only 5M tests. You are full of it Joe.

I've seen enough people from the different media pleading for testing...yeh we are good...we have the most. Keep saying that and you might actually believe it.
