Taking the plunge from film to digital! Also great deal on 5DII

I have finally made the jump from film to digital!  As a long time Canon shooter I have been eying the 5DII for a while.  Just discovered that Best Buy actually stocks this camera both online and in stores.  Even better, 18 months same as cash and the price is the same listed at B&H.  

Just thought people would want to know about this deal and I do not work for best buy at all.

I will post more when I actually get pictures out of this thing, and probably with the many questions I will have.

I get a lot of things from Best Buy, and I like their stores generally. But, if you buy the camera there and are tempted to also buy an extended warranty, you should read the small print of that extended warranty carefully. I was told with one item that my extended warranty had an instant-exchange privilege that was good for the life of the warranty (2 years).  What they forgot to tell me was I could only exchange one time in those two years, so after the first failure, I was stuck waiting for 6 weeks for the repair to take place.

Better than nothing! I'd rather have a new camera than a repaired one.

Congratulations! You will love the 5DII, I would recommend the 24-105IS with it as a package. It is my most used lens. For a second lens I would recommend the 70-200 f4.0 IS. I would also highly recommend DxO for RAW conversions, Focus Fixer for sharpening and noiseware professional for the times you need more noise reduction. I jumped into digital with the original 5D over 3 years ago and am glad to see others jumping in "both feet first".

Got body only as I am a longtime canon shooter and have a selection of lenses.  I am amazed by the video even tho I am just a rank amateur so far (but not for long!).

For video, I am having a blast with my 35-350L which was my backpacking lens but seems made for video use.  Lots of fun with zooms and focus changes.  It does zoom very smoothly even though it is push/pull.   I might upgrade to the new 28-300 which has better image quality.  With that and the 16-35 I have a total travel/backpack package with just two lenses.

I have noted your software recommendations but will probably stick with the canon software and photoshop for now until I learn more.

I can't believe the possibilities!  Shoot all I want, experiment all I want, delete what doesn't work, have full info on  what does work without taking notes, better dynamic range than film, and now even great video!  I feel like I did when I first took up photography 25 years ago!
