Canon 5D resale value
« on: March 15, 2009, 02:04:30 am »

Last July 2008 I sold my 5D with about 8300 actuations ( the CPS guy @ Canon called it a baby) for $1830 AUD on eBay. A friend of mine wants to buy one & I have noticed the price is up to $2000.00 AUD on eBay. With a grip they can fetch $2200.00 AUD. I find this interesting & I really thought 8 months down the road the 5D would be about $1500.00 AUD given that the 5DII is now on the market & when I sold mine the 5DII had not been announced yet.

I think the biggest reason is that its actually quite hard to get hold of a 5D mk2 right now depending on where in the world you are. in Sweden for example, the deliverydate keeps getting pushed forward since we only get a fraction of the demand delivered. So the resale value goes up since people want the 5D full format still. And the 5D is a good camera still so i doubt it will drop much below where they are now. In sweden the average resale value is about $2000 AUD and have been for quite some time. Recently it went up to about $2200 and you can see some trying to sell them off as high as $2500.

I sold mine for $2000 AUD last month to a guy that had bought the 5DmkII and preferred the 5D.
He sold the MkII.
Cheers,
Willem.

...consider the fact that the 5D is a FF just like the 5DMk2.

If the 5DMk2 is $2500 new, what should a used 5D in good condition cost?
