Hadrian's Wall in a thunderstorm or two with new image.

Friday was a terrific day for photography with big clouds and strong winds so I took a short trip to Hadrian's Wall. The only slightly dicey moment was standing atop Highshield Crags with thunder rumbling all around and noting that I was the tallest point for several miles. The weather was changing every few minutes with the second image taken during a hailstorm. Ken

I remember i have seen the Hadrian wall long time ago and was impressed with the landscape. The lake district area is another one i very much llike.

Sorry, a little late in replying. Thank you all for your generous comments although I prefer the second image which I have reprocessed making it a fair bit brighter and a little more colourful. It certainly didn't look like this with the rain and hail flying down. Ken

This treatment is the one that I like most. It's got a bleak, end of the world quality.

Four years ago I happened to be staying in Borrowdale when I heard that a group of 100 Roman Legion re-enactors was spending the weekend on the wall at Birdoswald and Housesteads (3 buses including their gear and 30 barbarians). I felt they really sensed the significance of the wall as the limit of Rome's power, and it was marvellous as a lovely cloudless September day slowly turned into a bitingly-cold evening (it had been 40C when they had left Rome and Milan) and they marched from the wall carrying flaming torches. Their shivering (though some had fleeces) provided a little hint of what it might have been like for the garrisons.

Pieter just too dark and gloomy for me and I don't often say that. There may be a mono version from this location. I have other images that I haven't posted. I even have one in full sunshine, more to come. Ken

very nice... I think the processing re-attack suits the image quite well.
