These are terrific! But, do you have any idea of the purpose of the horn-like thing on the top of the head in the first photo?

i would suspect it is some sort of resonator for the birds calls. At least that is what i thought i was hearing in Singapore when one of the hornbills was feeding in a tree nearby.
