Title: New York Patterns - Human Honeycomb?

Although not exactly a honeycomb pattern, it was my first association.

Anyone knows what are those numerous white ropes for, hanging at an angle?

The Lilliputians trying to topple the hive and get some honey? OK, stupid humor, but to me this image needs more terrorism ;) Seriously, would a little more snap hurt? Curious to hear your reply either way you'd come down on it. And I realize it's always a question of degree. What do you think?

Those are escape lines. Next time an airliner heads for your tower, thanks to Snowden and Manning, you grab one of those lines and slide down to the street. Be sure you have your work gloves on, though.

I like it very much.

It looks like an abstract but isn't and that's why I think it works so well, you can look at the detail within it (3D), or you can look at the surface, shape and design of it (2D).

It also reminds me of this famously expensive image (http://www.therichest.com/wp-content/uploads/the-99-Cent-2-Diptychon.jpg), which also works IMO, by having a very similar effect.

So Slobodan my advice would be, punch up the colour, print it very large and ker-ching...!

It reminds me of a series of photos taken in China a couple of years ago, but I can't remember who the artist was.

I suggest going even larger than that!  At least 20% larger than "very large", and then you can get double "a lot of money" for it.  ker-ching...! ker-ching...!

New York. Mid-Manhattan at that. Ironically enough, the area is most likely a part of Hell's Kitchen.

Ha!  With my slow-band connection, I was able to arrest the loading of Gursky's image at a pixelated state and then saw . . . Broadway Boogie-Woogie (P.Mondrian) on steroids!!

Yes, the ropes are probably for window washers, who, when equipped photographically naturally tend towards architecture, aerial, & boudoir.

I am really enjoying your take on NYC, Solobodan, particularly because your "seeing" is quite different than mine when I am in the city.

I guess what I am trying to do is to reduce and simplify the outside world, be it natural or manmade, to its essential elements of color, shape and form, light and shadow. See them, recognize them and enhance them.

For instance, I see this incredible variety of shapes, forms and colors all within the same block in NY:

An illustration indeed of why planning a new city from scratch could never produce charm.

You have to allow for the eclectic magic of time, race and personality to shine through. And that can't come from central planning.

The white ropes mystery solved: window washers indeed. I was skeptical at first, as the building does not have that many windows requiring outside washing, plus the angle of the ropes was strange (i.e., moving away from the building the closer it gets to the ground). Then, yesterday, while walking around Chicago, I saw the same thing. This time I was able to get to the building and see the washer platform parked on the ground, about 100 feet from the building - that explains the ropes' angle).
