Title: flowing stream
Post by: mokenny on August 11, 2013, 01:26:08 am
Stumbled on this photo taken some time ago, did a b&w conversion in silver effex pro.
The original is also attached, which is better ?
Comments welcome
Thanks
Mo

Hi Mo,
Normally I like nature in color, but in this case the b+w version seems to make everything work together more effectively.

Both are beautiful, but the B&W is more compelling to my eyes. Having said that I spent some time trying to understand why I reacted that way to the two photos. The colour seems limpid due to its warmish-green hue; the B&W is "colder" which, to me, makes it more in balance with "water". I think I also have something against brownish-looking water (due to the stream-bed and algae there, not your photography). I find the same is true in my own work - I am most likely to convert to B&W when the stream comes across "brownish".

Thanks for sharing.

Scott and Terry said it. I vote for the B&W, too. Very nice.

B&W to me.

For this image the B&W is the winner, much more dramatic.

I like the b&w but each time I look at it, I get a weird feeling that the centre is a b&w negative. I find it unsettling. It's odd.
