I'm thinking about picking up one of these used. Can anyone comment of the optics?

Fantastic!

The 75 shift is excellent.
-
i've found that the 75mm shift has alot more purple fringing then any of the other lenses at or below f/8. its completely gone by f/11.
-
Good lens, but it is huge and heavy and has to be cocked manually each shot. For use with DB quite a long focal length.

Thanks. Looking to use film for a rural VT and NH project. Should be wide enough for what I'm going for.
New question. Is the 75 short barrel with the TS adapter any different?
Thanks

Hello,
I use the Mamiya 75mm short barrel with the TS adapter as I find it more versatile because it gives me the ability to tilt. Optically it is identical to the the 75mm shift. Also you can also use the Mamiya 180mm SB lens as well.
Cheers

the M 4.5/75 mm L SB short barrel and the shift Z 4.5/75 mm W have the same optical construction.
in conjunction with the t/s adapter you can tilt the M 4.5/75 mm L SB +/- 12° and shift +/- 10mm.
the shutter is cocked automatically.
the shift Z 4.5/75 mm W cant be tilted, but can be shifted +/- 20 mm.
the shutter is cocked manually.

As mentioned, there are some differences, mainly depending on how much shift you need. I have both, and am in NH , feel free to pm if you want to see what they are like in person. I shoot film only also.
