When I turn on my Epson 3800 now I get the message "Maintenance Request 0088" on the status panel. I can't find this number in the printer book anywhere and Epson has not yet answered my e-mail. Any ideas what I need to buy to satisfy this problem?
Thanks

I had a similar error out of the box, when I got my 3800. I called Epson tech support and was rooted to someone in California, probably because the 3800 is a pro printer. He said these codes are not public, and arrange to take it into a repair depot. I thought the service was great, even though the bad luck with the error. It's been working perfect since and produces incrdible images.

This error per the Epson service manual on page 67 means:
NOTE : Ex): When "Maintenance Request 0088" is displayed. As "0088" in hexadecimal means "1000 1000" in binary, you can find out the code is assigned to Bit-3 and Bit-7 referring to the above table. In this case, two errors are occurring simultaneously. (Bit-3: battery exhaustion/ Bit-7: the date and time has not been set.)
So three questions arrise:
1) Where is the battery located?
2) What kind of battery is required?
3) How to set the RTC to augment date and time.

last time I looked, the battery type and the steps needed were in the service manual.
Here is my collection of 38xx service manual info:
