I just made custom 28mm wideangle camera.
I'm used H1 and P45, 35HC, 50-110HC, 150HC. so I want need some more wideangle.
It's Nikon F mount, copal 1 press shutter (B, 1~1/125), and Hassy H mount.
It can swapable back mounts. back is 2 pieces. (body + mount)
Focus is accurate. under sunlights, It can take with handheld shot. only need optical viewfinder (like zeiss 21mm or gaorashi from china - it's cheap and high quality)
problem(during making) has how to close between rear lens elements and copal 1 shutter. I'm try and try and try again.
Results is just covered 48x36mm and focus infinity. but my P45 (49x37mm), little bit vignetting.
I tested canon EF mounts, (EF mounts can accept nikon, contax/yashica, leice R, olympus OM etc)
but EF mount flange has some more short. so some more vignetting or risk your rear lens scratch than nikon F mounts.
I'm planning to make and sell this if you're interested. body only US$2k or 1.5K ???
my plan is accept canon EF mounts and use 17, 24 TS lenses or olympus 24PC or nikon 24PC.
It's difficult with copal 1, copal 3 is easy. but camera body has more bigger... I don't want fat cameras.
please let me know a large image circle 35mm wide lenses.
In my experience, PC nikkor 28 F4 (not F3.5) has about 65mm image circle(F11),
so it covered 48x36 and a little shift(2~3mm) with my sinar DB shutter and flex adapter. but can't with copal 1.
one more,
contax/yashica 85mm F1.2version has about 57~8mm image circle. but almost covered 48x36.
Thanks,
JK

How to change shutter speeds?
-
It's copal press 1 shutter.
so don't need cocking and recocking, only press the release.
JK
-
No different shutter speeds available?
For example from 1 second to 1/125th
-
It can B, 1 ~ 1/125. upperside is B, 1, 2,.....botttom is 1/125.
some more test shot.
It's all rainy day. so I can test in studio only.
It's similar angle of view 20mm of 35mm cameras.
I tested it with sigma 12-24 rear plastic cover removed. It covered p45 with 18~24mm.
but edge's image quality is bad. center is good. but that's all.

you won't be able to use EF mount lens or PC-E because the F stop needs to be controlled with electricity !
second point, a PC reflex lens exibit distortion, while a 35 APO sironar digital or similar don't !
otherwise, you could use an olympus zuiko 35 PC lens or non af mamiya 645 lenses.

1. I have know how to set aperture without EOS body. any aperture can setting.
I have tested many EF lenses, EF 14L, EF 20, even sigma 12-24 for EOS. aperture setting is F8, F11, F16
This is my knowhow. I searched and tried hard. but my camera repair center solved this keypoints.
high-price solution is novoflex reverse adapter. It controlled aperture. but needed eos body and high-price.
my solution is very easy and no cost.
for nikon G lenses, I will test via 16-9.net canon-nikon G adapter. but not yet.
2. a little distortion has occured, however.
but nikkor PC28 F4version, sigma 12-24 has hard to find distortion. leica PC(schneider PC) has a lot of distortion.
and distortion can fixed with capture1, I tested arsat 30mm fisheye to linear. distortion has fixed. but image-quality has......
I know rodenstock, schneider's no distortion. I've used 55mm apo sinaron WE, 65mm sinaron W with my sinar.
but digitar lenses has very high price. and I want light-weight camera can handheld.
I will post interior shot with 28pc, 12-24sigma some days later. now, I'm busy for shooting my job.
3. I have pentax645 35mm lens. It is very good for archi/interior work.
It's better than mamiya645 35mm. I tested both.
It can use with a few stitching or shifting.(with sinar DB shutter and flex-adapter)
Thanks for interest.

Firstly I'll say VERY COOL ! I like it.
Secondly I'll say, pretty much if you are going to use 35mm lenses, you might as well just use a DSLR.
I have tried that solution before with the true wide, while 35mm lenses can be tack sharp in the center
the image deteriorates very rapidly into the corners. The shift lenses distort and sharpness isn't good at
the corners either. Coupled with the awkwardness of such a system, a DSLR will do just well.

Thanks, rueyloon
You're right. but image via same lens has big difference both DSLR and MFDB.
even 24x36mm cropped from 48x36 better than 1dsmk3, 5dmk2.
I was surprised it. I think because of AA filter of DSLR.
Thanks to your LL forum's several post. I'm plan to make this camera.
http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index....showtopic=13620 (http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=13620)
first, I made custom body - sinar to eos lens board + sinar DB shutter + phase flex adapter.
DB shutter is large shtter. so any lens can accept it. but it's big size... I don't want it. I want like hassy SWC.

another test shot.
some handheld, some with tripod(shown pictures). shutter speed is 30,60, and 125. aperture is F8~11, ISO 50.
edge sharpness is not bad. please see detailed pictures.
I'm plan to sell this kit. and remake better version.
If you're interested, I will sell resonable price, If you want, I will sell with PC nikkor 28mm.
Thanks,
JK

Amazing job! Thank you for sharing. I've tried out the Kapture Group Truewide, and do rent it from time to time to get wide-angle on my Ixpress, but it's not totally there - I like the sliding back which is great, but the shutter ghosting in ambient light at shutter speeds above 1/30th sec is troublesome and very limiting. Any such problems with you rig? Also, I found with the PC-Nikkor shift lens on the Truewide - I couldn't make use of more of the shift range mainly because of the lens mount and shutter assembly, rather than the image circle itself.
Any handle for handheld work?
I would be interested to be kept up-to-date with the development of your camera!

I just re-modified this system.
It has no vignetting and few shift avaliable... (1~2mm) with PC nikkon 28mm and Phase P45 (49mm x 37mm)
I heard Hartblei compact cam... gorgeous but so expensive... US$ 8K~9K???
sample pictures,
corner sharpness is not bad...
-
my friends test this cam with his P25.
night shot. F8, 30sec

It's beautiful Chiek. You really got it right now
Congratulations!

nice to see personnal stuff !
the schneider 38xl super angulon (not the digital one) is report to be quite good for digital backs... you can find a second hand one for 600 700$ with is own copal !
no shift, it's not for me... i was planning to make something similar using arca part, but i need shift too much...
the Alpa TC is similar.
