Title: Epson Code 1600

Out of the blue my Epson 3800 stopped working and announced "Service Call Error 1600".  Does anyone know what it means or where I can look up these codes? (I do wonder if its not a code for sulking, as most of my attention now goes to my 9880.)

Check to see if there is anything on the platern, one of the sensors is detecting somthing when the printer is doing its checks on power on.

Thank you, Peter.  Something had fallen on the platern and the printer returned to normal when I removed it.
It would be helpful if Epson's manual or website provided a list and translation of these error codes.  But for your help, I might have put the machine in my car and headed for the repair center, checkbook in hand.

Well, you can call or email Epson to find out before you travel.

Often times the codes are not published because there are multiple meanings and methods of resolution, so it's typically better to speak with someone technical who can help and advise.

Yes you have only detection error, once you solve this, your printer start again working. If not call your printer support center

Thanks for this info. I very nearly packed up my 3800 in fear I had to ship it for repair. Whew!!!!

I have started getting the same error 1600. How does one check and clean the platern? How do you get access to it?

I'd be very grateful for any help.

What the heck's a "platern"? Is it Bostonese for "platen"?

Pop the black lid open and look down inside the printer at where the head moves along.

Check for anything that shouldn't be there making sure you check under the paper eject and paper input rollers.

If Epson error code 0x97 (https://www.epsonprintersupport247.com/easy-to-apply-methods-for-fixing-epson-error-code-0x97/) persists then try to run the troubleshooter as an alternative. To perform this step go to the device control panel and run the troubleshooter. Once the process is done, this bug can be fixed.
