Title: Shutter actuations
Post by: gr8fl4295 on February 11, 2009, 01:30:55 pm
Not sure how many times this topic has been discussed, but...
I'm trying to find out how many shutter actuations my 1DSMKII has.
I used Photo Mechanic, it tells me one number, then I used CS4, and it tells me another number, completely different numbers and off by quite a bit.
How do I know which one is correct?

Thanks.

None is correct; the recorded number is not reliable, it can be reset. Only the service personal can tell this (I guess by special functions activated by "wire"). One reasonably sounding speculation for the reason is, that the camera makers are supporting the dealers' wish to sell demo models as new.

Do you know how to reset this count? Is it something anyone can do or is this done at the manufacturer level? If not where did you discover that the actuation counter was hackable?

I have always received a reliable number with CanCount.

Can you share CanCount?  I can't seem to find it.

Nope, that's the free Windows version. I don't know if there's a free Mac version. You could try to contact the developer at http://www.soens.de/ (http://www.soens.de/)  (e-mail:  [email protected]).

I used Capture One and until I read this post never had any reason to doubt it... Are you saying that the Capture Counter in Capture One is not accurate?
