READY FOR Hy6? Rollei, Sinar, Leaf » FAVOURITE SET OF LENSES AND YOUR CHOICE OF DIGITAL BACK?
Potential Owners!!!
I am deciding on Hy6 platform and like some of you I'm thinking about the procedure how to put the system together without disturbing my future options or selling few lenses I just purchased for the new ones that have just arrived etc.
List, Ideas??????
PS: I am not selling Mamiya set, because it simply works and I am very happy and comfortable with the system!!!

I will propably buy into the Hy6 in the medium-long term. No money now.
Right now, if I could:
The body (duh!)
80mm lens
35 mm lens (even with the 1.1 crop factor, it's as wide as my fav hassy 903swc!)
in the first instand no telelens, I almost never use them.
120-film back.
and the 90 degree prism.
The backs are a tough one: most certainly a 39mpx, but the brand...god knows. The phase 45+ is highest on my list since it's the only one that handles long exposures.
In the future: a 120mm and 28mm lens and a square sensored back please :-)

I am looking into switching to this system for 110/2.0
This one lens makes it worth for me. I was never crazy about the 80mm from Rollei.

Which one? I think there are 5 (80/2.8 PQS Rollei, 80/2 PQ Schneider, 80/2.8 PQS Schneider, AF, and AFD). Would love to get hold of a 110/2 some day too.

The 110 is a great lens, I was using it yesterday and it still surprises me.
Not as much as the Schneider 90mm though - a shockingly sharp lens.

To wich I might add, why no 39mpx backs? The difference in pixels isn't a dealbreaker to me, I just wonder why it is only Hasselblad and PhaseOne build 39mpx backs then...

Do you know who supplies Mamiya?
Only 2 manufacturers, Dalsa and Kodak.
Dalsa tops out at a 33mp sensor for now and Kodak has a 39mp sensor. Both sensors are basically the same physical size. They are just independently created.
Sinar and Leaf use Dalsa, Hassey and Phase use Kodak.

110/2 is great -I wonder why Rollei never offered the Zeiss 150/2.8 a really stellar lens as well. Best 150 ever for my money.

My opinion only!!!
80/2.0 is very soft and not in the nice way - not even close to the offering from Contax
80/2.8 Zeiss is a good lens but nothing spectacular
80/2.8 Schneider AF was a major pain on Rollei 6008AF as it could never focus on spot and was making tons of squeaky noises searching the limits of its focus range. I had it replaced twice and kept sending the whole system with P20 to Rollei USA back and forth. I heard that there was later a fix to this issue with new firmware but after I gave up trying to solve it.
80/2.8 manual very good but overly sharp for my application.
90/4.0 by far the sharpest lens I ever used. Perfect for counting pores on model faces or as "before"
lens in "before and after" wrinkle cream advert.
110/2.0 magical lens worth every penny of it's hight tag price (for my use).

The 80/2.8 AFD I tried with the Leaf AFi7 last week was very sharp. It focused accurately on a well lit model. I did get it to hunt mildly when shooting focusing against some perhaps low lit objects on a shelf behind the counter at the camera store. It was nowhere close to a stop-to-stop hunt and there was only a slight whirr-whirr sound. It finely locked relatively quickly. With the H, the focus is either there, or it is not, never any hunting.

I recently purchased a Xenotar 2.0/80 together with a Longar 1.4X.
I was told the Longar was designed to go with the 2.0/80 and the 2.8/180.
I did hear that the 2.0/80 was soft @ F2.0,however isn't that the whole idea?
My Canon 1.2/85 is also soft @F1.2.
Anyhow I hope to try these lenses soon on my new Hy6,when I finally get my hands on one.
I also own an eMotion-75LV.
My lens line up is now:
40 + 55PCS + 60 +80/2 +90 ApoMakro and the 180/2.8 + the Longar 1.4x
All Schneiders and all manual focus.I'm not interested in AF.

I myself have a mix of new and older lenses on the 6008i.
A non-PQ 40mm Zeiss: good lens, shouldn´t have fallen out of my bag :-)... huge repair bill. I use the 180mm´s hood in reverse, to get some sort of shade for the sun.
A PQ, but non-FLE 50mm. Not too big, not good in the corners - which doesn´t matter with my 22MP back!
The very sharp PQ Schneider 80 2.8mm. A very very good lens.
The PQS 90mm Schneider: absolutely superb, but I like the focal length of the 120 macro better for people shots (like a bride´s jewellery).
The PQS 120mm Zeiss: very nice for portraits and details. Above f8 very nice for landscape too. Shame that it tends to flare quite severe in backlit situations.
The PQ 150mm Zeiss: good, nothing special. I don´t use it anymore since I have got the 120mm and 180mm.
The PQ 180mm Schneider: very nice, but quite some faulty focussing when open...
A non-PQ 250mm Zeiss: nothing special, some vignetting when used with film.
A 2x converter - good! I use it now and then with the 180mm as 360 5.6. Very nice, needs a sturdy tripod.
Would like to have? A whole lot! So when the days of bounty and richess come, I´ll buy the new 35mm, a 50 2.8, the 110 and a 300mm. And a 1.4 conv please, thanks.
That said, I am very satisfied with what I have now and try not to be over-envious...

On a 6003 - I have used mostly the 60 mm Schneider, which, for some reason, seems to impress as the best lens ever. Its wide, detailed, sharp and has great bokeh. Just special. As a single lens camera, this is the one to have.
Its companions are the Schneider 40 mm, for the wide shots, architecture, and if the digital back ever joins the family. Its the same size as the 60 - quite compact. It might have a bit of give in the corners, but its pretty amazing too
The Schneider 90 hasn't seen much use, but its fine, with its macro setup quite versatile.
And a 55 PCS, for shift. Its a bit too big and heavy, but does give fully automatic metering with shift. Its almost easier to shoot with the 40 and crop, but I like to shoot full frame. There was a 150 Schneider in the family, a really good lens, but it was never used that much. But I think (if the back ever comes) I'd try to get one again. Of course, the 120 is faster, so that's appealing too.
The attachments are in existing light - one with the 150, handheld, the other the 55 PCS.

I am the only one in the country with a 6008 so I have to have backups of every length, or at least close substitutes. I currently have:
2 x 40mm f3.5 Schneider (my most used lens)
80mm f2.8 PQS (Rollei version)
80mm f2 PQ Schneider
150mm f4 PQS
180mm f2.8 PQ
Also have the Longar 1.4x
Would love to add the 50mm f2.8 PQS, 60, 90, 110 and 300 and 35mm when it's available. One day...

Graham, what are your thoughts on the 80/2.0 wide open, and how does it stack up against the /2.8 when used at the same apertures?

I haven't actually tested this but I probably should. If I find time I will test and post results.

OK folks, how about it.... it's almost a year since I wanted to purchase one of Hy6..... hopefully it will happen!!!
Sensors are only getting bigger, so in that regard... any thought on lenses?

Yes+resolution in AF preferably... not sure if there are new Lenses on the way to be released?
