Title: Camera body odour...
Post by: couleur on September 22, 2007, 10:39:45 pm
Recently I had picked up a used Canon 5D. The body is in good condition, and everything works fine. But I notice it smells... like tobacco. Does anyone know how I could remove the odour?

You can buy a product called 'Nil Odor'.

Put one drop [its really potent stuff] on a soft microfibre clothe and wipe it over the body.

That will get rid of it.

Isn't that quite risky?

Wrap it in a brown paper grocery bag for a week, works on fish smells too!
Marc

PS: the hotel coffee packets (the ones that the coffee is incased in the filter) are also great odor eaters! Throw one of those in the bag with the camera.

Try it in a small inconspicuous area first to see if there's any staining or whatever, and if all goes well, treat the entire body. The worst possible outcome is some cosmetic blemishes that won't affect camera function.

My friend suggested me to use Zippo lighter fluid. It works! But there is still a mild odour.

How about methylated spirit? Does anyone recommend using that?

or you could stand back and Fabreeze the H*** out of it. I do it with my smoking friends all the time. They are starting to get the hint!

Methanol? It should help, but my earlier advice applies. And of course, don't smoke while applying the fluid...
