Interesting shots… The volcano is - in shape - almost caricatural, like the Stromboli. This is how I imagined a volcano when I was a little kid. Let's hope that everything goes well and that the imminent eruption stays imminent for a long time.

I hope it stays dormant.
I had the experience of climbing to the summit of Hekla in 1974, when it was roughly half-way between eruptions. But that is way inland, far from any villages or habitation.

I still remember the eruption in 2010 from the volcano with the loooonnngggg and unpronounceable name:)
I was in Abu Dhabi at the time and had to stay there for a few more days, which was not bad, actually.

I just checked the history of Hekla eruptions, and the late 1900s ones were in 1970, 1980, 1981, and 1991. We were there on a hiking club tour in 1974. The bus got us as close to the base of Hekla as possible, and most of us elected to try hiking to the summit. About a dozen of us made it to the top, while most turned back half-way up. The going was mostly over fairly hard-packed snow, maybe a foot deep. Here is one of my shots from the summit.

You are right. Although the road towards the site has been blocked, some folks have been walking to it and getting up close without masks or proper equipment. This despite warnings from authorities. Chances are that all access will be cut off soon if this continues.
