Title: Lightroom CC 2015 Sharpening Brush "details"
Post by: Michael West on December 26, 2015, 01:55:26 pm
I have been feverishly searching for the details...on the Sharpening used in the Adjustment Brush in Lightroom CC 2015.

The sharpening in the "slider side" of L.R. is very straighforward as to amount, radius, detaii, and  masking. These control options do not appear to be available with the brush adjustment tool.

what are the radius and the detail"numbers for the sharpen brush?

this is of course hardly  a matter of life or death. simply an itch to understand what is "happening" with the brush sharpening

Thank you.

Hi Michael,

AFAIK, the same settings are used as those set in the Detail tool panel.

Cheers,
Bart

Hi Michael,

yes, the brush uses the settings for radius and detail from the details panel, but adds or removes amount, depending whether you use a + or - brush.

My followup question would then be: if I use the brush to locally add some additional sharpening and it goes on with the current radius and detail settings but then I leave the brush tool and change the global settings for radius, did I just change the radius and detail of what I added with the brush or was the radius fixed and remains what it was when I exited the brush tool?

Yes...

So, that's yes the setting got changed or yes the setting is fixed and remains what it was?

If you change the global setting, the local adjustments get changed as well.

Thanks, Jeff.  That was VERY helpful to know.

If you change the global setting, the local adjustments get changed as well.

Thanks for confirming.

That makes sense for a parametric editor. There is only one place where the settings can be changed, so they will be used for all subsequent uses when the parameters are (re-)used for previewing and exporting.

It would be much more useful if one could use separate settings for Capture Sharpening and Creative sharpening, but that's not the case at this point in time. So, the same settings will be reused everywhere, and basically the 'amount' is locally modified.

Cheers,
Bart
