Lightroom 6, has demosaicing improved?
« on: April 26, 2015, 06:17:09 pm »

I've been trying to find out if the processing of X-Trans files in LR 6 is better, but now am just curious to know if Adobe is improving the way raw files are processed, apart from adding "bells and whistles". Meaning, has anyone seen a difference  from version 5?

My understanding is no per se. That doesn't mean that if there were some bug in previous issues with that specific raw, it wasn't fixed but generally speaking, no.

Thanks for the reply Andrew. I can wait a bit to decide if I have a use for the new features.

I've seen no noticeable improvement in the processing of RAW files from my Fuji X-T1 with Lr 6.  That doesn't mean that I'm unhappy with Lr though. I don't often see the issues many complain about with demosaicing of X-Trans files in Lr.

I use Peter Bridgwood's approach to sharpening X-Trans files and it makes a huge difference.  It is quite different from how I sharpen my Canon DSLR RAW files in Lr.

Yes, I have Peter Bridgwood's presets loaded into Lightroom, and they provide a useful starting point.
I find Lightroom will do 80% of my raw processing well enough, and I use both 2012 and 2010 process versions depending on the image.  But where I want better detail, highlight recovery or better colour in areas with rgb values above roughly 245 I still go to PhotoNinja. That applies to my Canon files as well.

I recommend you give iridient developer a try. The fully functional demo is free.
