Dry Mounting---Adhesive Paper
« on: April 24, 2015, 09:59:45 pm »

To the Sages out there----at one time, prior to the digital age, I was very comfortable dry mounting my archival BW fiber based papers on a large Seal dry mounting press----With today's digital papers, I have not done so.  I have resisted because "I know nutting".

So I ran across an individual who uses Neschen Gudy Adhesive paper, also using a Brayer roller and mounts on gator brd--completes the deal with Moab desert varnish spray.

You guys doing it this way or another or comments re: dry mounting.

It probably depends on the varnish solvent but I had some bad experience with spraying varnish after mounting matte art prints, the adhesive's bond was affected. Better safe that sorry, spray the print first, let dry (can be forced drying), and then mount.

I'm using heat-activated foam board to mount my coated canvas and also my luster papers. I've mounted the Epson Exhibition Fiber after using Desert Varnish and also have mounted luster than sprayed it. It doesn't seem to matter in my experience.

Though the dwell time on the board says about 30 second to a minute, it always seems to take about five or more minutes to get a good grip between the print and the foam board at about 165-175 degrees F.

I use Colormount and a 16x20 Seal press.
