Trouble installing LR6 on Win7/64bit
« on: April 23, 2015, 07:19:38 pm »

Anyone else have the problem installing?
Its asking for vc_red.msi.

I found an instance of this file on root C my OS drive, but it says that this is not valid install package for the MS VisualC++ redistributable x64.

So I went to MS site and downloaded the Vis C++ red package, and did a Repair on the install. but no luck knowing where the vc_red.msi is that would be considered valid.
This had happened with another software, but I was able to locate the right msi file.  I tried all the ones I know on my system, no such luck.

Anyone have any idea what this all isand why I'm getting this error ?

I'm pretty sure that file is supposed to be part of the download you get from Adobe.
When I downloaded it and ran the installation program, the first thing that came up was a window announcing that it was installing MS Visual C++ redistributable x64. After that, it installed the LR files.

Try downloading the original installation package again.

I downloaded mine to a new dirsctory, and the installation directory contains two files and four subdirectories. The subdirectories are called "deploy," "packages," "payloads," and "resources," and the two files are "Lightroom 6 ReadMe.pdf" and "Set-up.exe."

I ran Set-up.exe and everything loaded fine one wrinkle: I did have to sign in to my Adobe account, which would not accept my password as cut-and-paste, so I had to type the silly thing in by hand.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply and poke at this....

It helped me see the vc_red files, but they are executable. the install is asking for an .msi file. So I tried to install the x64 setup file and it prompts to repair, but then it says the feature I'm trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

2 hours now and still not able to install this.

I followed the uninstall info here below and it looks like it is installing past that hicup.

I hope it works for you.
It is a bit distressing that Adobe may not be including the most up-to-date version of the C++ redistributable with a brand new piece of software.

Let us know if it works.

It did work. I uninstalled all. But now I have to fish for the latest update, as it doesn't look like LR6 used the latest versions.  I'm not sure what type of vulnirability this leaves my computer in, but Hello! at least link it up to an official update. I don't even know why I would need such an install deployment method.
